Post Injury Training and Nationals Prep
The rest of my training post PRP injection was very mixed. There were some really good days where the knee was doing well and not bothering me, and others where it hurt to climb up stairs. I knew I wouldn't be 100% and I still am not, but I know that it is better than what it was.
5 weeks into the post PRP training, I began to incorporate sandbag carries into the training from different weights and distances. Nothing crazy, weights usually stayed between 100-225lbs, but that conditioning felt great, especially after not training carrying events for so long.
My come to Jesus moment was when I started doing yoke carries again. I always stayed away from yoke if I didn't have to train it because the force on my knee was too much to deal with. 6 weeks in, I was able to carry a 690lb yoke 60ft with no pain. I was even able to walk normal the next day. This is when I knew that I was better than I was before. I knew I was ready to deload and begin nationals prep.
So yesterday, Monday July 18th, was the start of nationals prep. The events were announced on Sunday and it was time to modify the training for the events. The events are all good events and will be a great test to find out who is the national champion. Circus DB press, yoke carry, axle tire deadlift, hussafelt carry, keg and stone carry and load medley.
Last year's nationals, my training was on point. I did everything and went in and had a good competition (5th on 300lb class, 15th overall) but I needed to be better. This time, everything is going to be on point.
I have begun to do the ROMWOD to work on my mobility and holy crap I am not flexible. I thought I was ok but I am BAD. Also, I am working with a nutritionist to make sure my nutrition is on point. With everything clicking, and moving together, I know I will bring the best package to nationals.
My the help from my coaches (training-Dimitar Savatinov, nutrition-Ashley Rozzi), my sponsors (Cerberus Strength, Play Again Now, The Protein Bakery, Hylete), and my family, my goals will be achieved.
