Week 3 Cube Method
Week 3 was the most dreaded week of this program for me, but I knew that once I got through it, I would have a deload week.
Day 1 - MAX SQUATS
I haven't maxed out doing squats until fall 2008 when I stopped playing football. I was impressed with my overall numbers for not hitting maxes in years. I managed to hit 485 on my 11th set. For my 12th, i tried for 500. On the way down, I felt that I was not lot enough so I went down a little lower and completely lost it. Thank God i set the rack where it was, I was perfectly safe.
Day 2 - Speed Overhead
From lifting so much last week without any days off, my shoulder was in a lot of pain and was very sore. So I did 12 sets of 10 just using 40lb dumbells of a parallel grip seated press. One thing I have noticed is thia program is completely gassing my muscles. It has been AWESOME!! I can tell that I am getting bigger and more vascular over these few weeks.
Day 3 - Repitition Deadlift
This was probably my worst deadlift day in a while. First 5 sets were no problem for 405lbs for sets of 8. Set #6 kicked my ass, I felt like all of my strength and energy just disappeared out of nowhere. So I lowered the weight and bused out 4 more sets of 8 at 365 then 2 more at 315. Not a good deadlift day but always room for improvement.
Day 4 - Event Day
Since I was at the gym and not Bix's house, I had to use different equipment for the event training. I began with hex bar (frame carry). Worked up to 405lbs for 80ft and back with a re-pick. Then completed atlas stones with the stone trainer. I actually was able to do 245lbs with the trainer which is a big plus for me. My number one worst event is stones. I have only completed stones in one competition. That is going to end starting with my next comp: Hudson Valley Showdown August 3rd!
