Strongman Couples Competition 3 write-up
This competition was one of the most fun that I have every competed in. This was a couples competition, so a guy and a girl competed on the same team. I was competing with someone who never did strong(wo)man before. This was her first time and unfortunately for her, we could not compete in novice, so HW Open it was.

The first event was the Last Man Standing Log Clean and Press. Everyone opened up at 260lbs, no problem. One of my friends from Just Performance Fitness has her partner skip and not show up to compete with her. I decided to jump in and compete twice. This meant I had to do every single event twice. It sucked. I managed to hit 300lbs on the log and came 2 inches away from 320. That would've been a PR. The 300 was still a comp PR though.
The second event was the deadlift, max reps. Going into this event, it was 600lbs w/ 80lbs of chains from 12 inches. During training the prior weekend, I couldn't complete 1 lift. I went first and only did 1 rep for my "novice" partner. I wanted to save all of my energy for my new partner because I knew we had a chance to win this event. I ended up w 5 reps for the other partner, tying a LW pro who was competing in this class (BTW he wore a suit and I didn't).
The 3rd event was max tire flips w/ a 100lb tire. My first partner and I set the pace with 12 flips in 60s. The next two teams each managed 11 reps. My last team and I started going. 20s into this is event, I was absolutely gassed. We still managed to rep it out and end with 12 reps. Both of my teams tied for 1st.
The 4th was a sandbag carry medley. For my first team, we managed to load 4 sandbags (2 each). My second team got 5 sandbags (Danielle did 3, I got 2).
The last event was the stone load medley. My first team (Katrina and I) were 3rd going into this event. We only loaded 3 stones (2 for me and 1 for her) but that one she loaded was a huge PR for herself. My second team was last to go. We were 2nd going into this and down by 1 point, we needed to win to tie for first (we would've lost due to a tiebreaker if this happened). We loaded all 6 stones but was 5s too late.
Once the awards were announced, my original team (Katrina and myself) took 3rd place. Danielle and I came in 2nd. This was a great day for myself and my future. Not only did I have the strength to hit some good numbers, I have the cardio and endurance to compete in technically 2 competitions in 1 day. I am ready to concentrate on hitting my 2015 goal of Top 3 in 300lb weight class at NAS Nationals.
I would like to thank my sponsors for all that they do for me (Protein Bakery, Play Again, Body Brigade). Without their assistance, I would not be where I am today. Most of all I would like to thank my wife for taking care of me and listening to me complain when my body is sore and beat after all of my training. I would like to also thank my support team from Just Performance Fitness. There is a great group of people at that gym and a lot of them came out to see me and others form the gym compete. They cheered us on and really helped push all of us to do our best.
