Poundstone's Medley Massacre write up
So close to Nationals 2014, I was unsure about doing a strongman competition. Thanks to one of my sponsors, Play Again, my joints were prepared to handle the training and another competition, this close in time.
I will say this was my most dangerous competition that I have ever done. The competition started outside in the rain. The first event was the press medley. A 160lb circus db, 250lb axle, 250lb keg, and 250lb log for reps. I got the first three but then failed on the log. Due to the cold and rain, the keg was impossible to clean so by the time I had it pressed, all of my energy was gone. This was good enough for 2nd place.

The 2 event was the grip medley. 280lb farmers for 50ft followed by a 650lb frame for 50ft. I took first in this event with about 21seconds. This event was very dangerous in the rain.
Due to the rain picking up, they decided to have the last two events inside. The 3rd event was the deadlift medley, 450lb axle, 600lb trap bar, 650lb frame, and 550lb barbell for reps. During training, I only managed to get 3 reps of the barbell. The first competitor did 6 reps, another 2. I was the last to go. By the time I got to the barbell, I just began repping the weight. I ended with 7 and the event win.
I knew by this point that I won the competition. The last event was a carry and load medley. I only loaded 1 of 5 events to ultimately seal my victory. I then stopped to prevent any injury.
This was overall a fun competition. Most importantly though, this win qualified me for nationals in October 2015, so now I can concentrate all of my training on next years nationals.
I would like to thank all of my sponsors for always supporting me throughout all of my training and competing, The Protein Bakery, Play Again, and Body Brigade. I also would like to thank my wife Olivia for coming and supporting me. This was definitely not the most exciting competition to be at since it was cold and rainy.
Next up is a couples competition Dec 6th. I am competing with a first time strongewoman so it will be a fun show to do.
