Strongman Update
It has been a while since I have last posted anything and a lot has happened during this time. Right now, it is 3 weeks out from NAS Nationals in Reno and I couldn't be more excited. My goal for 2014 was to compete at a national competition and I am hitting that goal. Unfortunately, I was injured in April and had to drop out of Shreveport in May but doing so only made me smarter.
In the end of July, I competed at Granite State Championships in NH and won the HW class. This competition is what qualified me to compete at nationals. I did not compete much overall in 2014 compared to normal because of a few injuries and moving twice over a 9 month period but I have been training harder than ever before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lpKn6LwkkI
Moving back to New England has helped me incredibly. For 8 months, I was training at Lightning Fitness in South Windsor, CT and Matt Mills there showed me what training was all about. I used to think that my training sessions were hard until I lifted for the first time with Matt. We had a deadlift party and I could barely move after that. The intensity that I had in that session is what I try to put in each workout now each day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY5XhVGGovE
After those 8 months, my wife and I moved again and I began training at Just Performance Fitness in Moosup, CT. There is not as much equipment there to use but it is filled with people giving it all they got and willing to help motivate and push others towards their goals. It was here that I began my training for Nationals.
A huge part in my overall growth this year in the sport of strongman is due to my sponsors. This year, I began my sponsorships with The Protein Bakery and Play Again. These two companies have stood behind me and helped support me through my training.
The Protein Bakery makes brownies, blondies, and cookies that are healthy for you and filled with protein. These guys help give my muscles the carbs and protein to keep fighting each day in the gym and consistently get better. http://proteinbakery.com/
Play Again is almost like magic. They make a liquid supplement that you drink every night of hyaluronic acid. This stuff is pretty much hydraulic fluid for your joints. It helps keep them lubricated and alleviate pain which is something anybody who is a heavy lifter has. So if you have any joint pain, I would definitely check them out. http://playagainnow.com/
The most important sponsor though that I could ever ask for to be by my side and support me 100% is my wife, Olivia. When we first began dating, I was just getting into strongman so she has literally been by my side supporting me since the beginning. Without her, I would not be where I am today. She will be with me at nationals, cheering me on and supporting me throughout the whole competition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqKWHO6jiBw
In 2012 and 2013 I qualified for Nationals but never went because I felt that I was not ready to compete at that level but not anymore. So now it is almost time to fly to Reno and finally compete at the national level. My eyes are on the prize. My goal in going to Reno is to qualify for the Arnold Classic 2015 and that is exactly what I am going to do.
